How does the price of coffee change based on where you live and how good it is?

In 2018, Starbucks served more than 400 million customers every day at their coffee shop. Because there is such a high demand for good coffee, coffee pop-ups drive up the price of coffee. In some countries, a cup of espresso like the ones at Gino’s or Espressamente Illy can cost as much as US$300.

Coffee costs different amounts depending on where you are and what you buy. For instance, in many parts of Brazil, coffee can be bought for as little as $1 per kg. In Peru, prices are going up quickly because there aren’t enough high-quality beans and farmers’ market forces are growing. If a coffee shop can afford high-quality green beans for Peru’s traditional “cupping” ceremony, they may have to pay up to USD $16 per kg.

Outside of these Latin American countries, the only affordable option may be to roast your own coffee beans or make coffee from ground seeds from that area.

The price of coffee would depend not only on how much it costs to run plantations and make coffee, but also on how much people want it. If more people want coffee, a company can charge more for it.

Since it’s hard to make high-quality coffee in a small country like Brunei, for example, Brunei doesn’t make very expensive coffee. This means that high-end companies will charge less for their coffee.
